The animated
commercial for Postsparbanken, the Swedish Postal Bank, seen
to the left, was probably created some time near the end of
1920s. It is the story of a fast driver in a hurry to get
to the bank, and thus getting caught by the police. The talking
movie was not yet in full use and this commercial was therefore
relying on intertitles.
Still,
the technique of the film is typical for animations of the
time. Animated movements were simple, with many static objects
in every frame. Jerky changes, where each movement was depicted
in very few frames, was also typical for contemporary animation
methods. The commercial for the Swedish Postal Bank is nevertheless
interesting, since it uses an insert with an animated sequence
of a person's real hands opening an account book.
