Moving images constitute a fantastic audiovisual cultural
heritage spanning the entire 20th century. Through cooperation
between Swedish Television (SVT) and the Swedish National
Archive of Recorded Sound and Moving Images (SLBA),
more than 60 years of newsreels and thousands of short
films have been digitalized and collected in the database
"Reel History" - in Swedish entitled "Journal
Digital". In total there are 5.554 films - more
than a thousand hours worth of Swedish history from
the 20th century.
In
this presentation on the web, one percent of the material
is available for viewing. It may not sound much, but
on the following web pages you will find more that 50
streamed films, some of them more than 20 minutes long,
as well as a richly illustrated material and hundreds
of background texts, introducing you to Swedish newsreel
and documentary film history. The web presentation "Reel
History" has been divided into ten themes - go
to Film Themes.
