The short
film parody in the Nordisk Tonefilms Journal, the Nuet-Newsreel,
from 1954, is a brilliant example of the metafilmic aspect
of the database "Reel History". In the collection
there are hundreds of films, sequences and footage that either
deal with film media itself, or with other modern media like
gramophones, radio and television. There is also a number
of films about the printed press and the art of making newspapers.
Naturally
most of these "media films" are not as subtle and
funny as this film of the "Nuet", with Lennart Hyland
as narrator - who later on became one of the most famous television
personalities in Sweden. But it is actually surprising how
many of the preserved newsreels and short documentary films,
that today can be regarded as some kind of media historical
sources in (audio) visual form.
